Kent Gross Architecture

My husband and I bought our home in the fall of 2010 and immediately came up with a few improvement ideas. We’re just a skip away from Pace Boulevard (Pensacola) in a somewhat cookie-cutter ranch. The work we wanted done was not small in scale and decided it was a good idea to seek some outside assistance. My husband works in construction, so that side of things was taken care of. But he’s not an architect (lol), so we wanted to call somebody good, and one of his friends at work suggested Kent Gross. | First and foremost, do not use Kent Gross for anything. Don’t even call him to come out for an estimate. Communicating with him is virtually impossible. Even worse, he doesn’t have any concept of local real estate laws or zoning concerns. We were new to Pensacola as we had moved to Florida from the northeast, so we figured an architect from the area would be able to walk us through what we could and couldn’t do. | Since Gross came recommended to us by a friend, my husband (Dan) didn’t want to blow him off. This, after plunking down a huge deposit and waiting around for him to draw up a draft of what we wanted done (an addition to the porch as well as a carport for the driveway). We were patient for weeks. Dan finally went so far as to go to his office to get him in person. But he wasn’t there. | After a month of this nonsense, we left him messages telling him we want our deposit back and that if he doesn’t comply, we’ll go to the Better Business Bureau and to the DBPR to file a complaint. Even those went unanswered. We’re still waiting for this to be resolved and in the meantime, are out several thousand dollars and stuck in a stalemate.
