Attorney Barbara Fein took on as clients a couple, close and beloved relatives of mine, who held a mortgage on my house and who really no longer completly understand what they are doing. She threatened foreclosure on my house, after I already had the house under agreement of sale and was about to pay the couple all I owed them, which I did as soon as the house was sold. | They were her clients, but she charged me, an exhorbitant amount for her doing almost nothing, which was automaticslly deducted from the already drastically-lowered proceeds from the house. She ordered me not to contact those people anymore and went out of her way unnecessarily to cause a total and seemingly permanent horribly painful rift in our relationship. I also then had to hire a lawyer to represent me, although for about a sixth of what she charged. | All the people who had to deal with Barbara Fein on my behalf agreed that she is nasty, greedy, unreasonable, and unethical. For her to have taken on a case for clients whose competence is questionsble, essentially just to threaten me and to do little else, but automatically to charge me a large fee, which I could not avoid, when the issue was already solved, was, in my belief and that of my lawyer and my real estate broker, unscrupulous and bordered on malpractice. | There is, among other things, something very wrong with a situation in which a foreclosure lawyer can automatically attach a large fee from her clients’ opponent, the victim of an unnecessary foreclosure, upon the completed sale of a house.
