Karl Bremmer Hospital – Pathetic Service

I have now taken my wife home, after sitting at the hospital since 04:45am this morning. I had rushed her to hospital as she had difficulty breathing and nearly passed out at home and enroute to the hospital.Upon arrival at the Emergency ward, they refused to assist or see her due to her being that far pregnant. They referred her to the maternity ward on level 3.

We sat waiting for 2 and half hours before she was assisted.

The assistance given was as follows :

Urine Test

Blood Pressure Check

Then stuck into a single room designated for Covid19 Patients only, as they were afraid she had covid19.

Put onto a monitor to check on the child’s heartbeat.

She has up until 13:10 layed in the room without any form of assistance to open up her chest and allow her breathing to improve.

There had been a nurse pop in and ask a few questions, yet she could not assist as she was waiting for the doctor.

After laying in a urine soaked bed all day, a doctor came to listen to her breathing and noted that her chest was bad and then left.

Two young ladies came a few hours later to ask how she is, and noted that they were waiting for the consultant to advise and mentioned they could assist with an Asthavent Inhaler.

She has bronchitis, as diagnosed by the Parow Clinic. Medication supplied and a Covid19 test done. Covid19 test came back negative at 07:45am this morning.

My wife was told she could not be put onto oxygen until the covid results had come through. Yet even with the results still no assistance nor nebulizer to help her breathe easier.

Is this honestly the service your hospital provides?

What would your hospital tell her family had she died due to insufficient oxygen due to her difficulty in breathing?

And NO!!!!!! one can say different, as I have been with her all morning and day.

To say the medical assistance is pathetic is putting it mildly.

How many more meetings before something good actually gets done?

After 8 hours of being in the hospital, she still is exactly in the same state I had brought her in.

Staff were all polite and friendly, BUT no help in solving breathing problem.

I am extremely frustrated at the level of medical service and need this to be resolved.

I am now providing this information to the Health Ombudsman of South Africa.

If you can not even assist a 37.5 week pregnant woman with serious breathing difficulties, how can we trust you with my unborn child’s life during birth?

There are 2 options :

Rectify the Problem or I have my wife lay charges and proceed with a lawsuite.

No more meetings, no more empty promises. Time for actions.

This is about as polite as I can be. Trust me I am livid
