DECCA Real Estate Corporation Review

I applied for a home that I would be living in with my mother, who is my disabled dependant, and my sister. When I reviewed the requirements for the home, it stated that the renter had to have at least a 600 credit score. I have over 600. I paid $200 in application fees because the realtor stated that even though I would be the one paying the rent and responsible for the home, I was required to pay the fee for any adult in the home. After 3 days, I was becomming impatient, and since I travel for work, I phoned my office to find out if the realtor had phoned to check on my employment yet, they informed me she had not. So, I contacted the realtor to ask what the status was. First, I was asked my age, and I replied that I was 35. I was then told that I had been turned down because the home was in a 55+ neighborhood. Now, if this had been the case, and the real reason I was turned down, my money should have NEVER been accepted. But, I then explained that my mother was over 55 and my dependant, so I did qualify. I was then directed to speak to Lois Lane. | When I spoke to Lois, I asked her for details as to why I was being turned down. She began by stating that two applicants had low credit scores. I replied that my salary would be covering the rent, and that I was the responsible party for the home. The only reason that the other two had turned in any information was that she stated that it was required for me to have them apply if they would be living with me. She then stated that I had “too much student loan debt.” To say the least, I was appalled. I make the salary that I do thanks to that student loan debt. I am also renting due to that rather than buying. I explained that my credit score was OVER 600, my salary was more then DOUBLE the minimum, etc. She then said “well young lady…” and I cut her off requesting that she not call me that as I am a full grown woman of 35, to which she stated, “well you sound very young.” | I then asked her why she took my money if she wasn’t going to review the application in full. I said that she had not checked my employment or rental history and she said “how do you know I haven’t?” I replied that I had phoned in to my office and they told me that no one had called to check my information. She then back tracked and said “well your credit score is under 700.” So, for some reason, she is changing the requirements based on her bias against me. I told her that I wanted my application fees returned because she failed to complete the application check and was not truthful in her statement of requirements. Of course, she refused to return the funds. | The home has been listed for over 2 months and there have been over 27 people on the rental site that have shown interest. It seems this realtor wants to make as much as she can in application fees while refusing people who qulify based on some age, sex, or racial bias.
