Dad’s Handyman Service Review

On August 10, 2015 Dax came to my house to assess rain water leakage from two areas: the top of a 1st floor living room double window and the bottom of a 2nd floor French door leading to a small balcony. Dax surveyed the two areas, inside and out, and he set up a ladder outside the living room window and began pulling vinyl siding off the house. At the same time his assistant, a man called “Squeek,” started to remove vinyl siding from the area around the 2nd floor French door. He was later joined by Dax who helped pull decking boards off the balcony and remove even more vinyl. Finally Dax cut a section of simulated wood flooring out of the recreation room floor just inside the French doors. The two men stopped work after about 3 hours and Dax made a list of materials needed to seal off the two leakages. I then gave Dax the $150.00 cash that he requested. I did not see Dax again until 4 days later. | On August 14 Dax returned to tell me that the final list of materials amounted to $260.00 which he then needed before he could complete the job. He also stated that the French doors may have to be replaced, at an additional cost, if his outside caulking and other repairs did not work as planned. I agreed to this and told him that it had to be absolutely necessary (the full cost of the doors was left open until the time came that they might have to be replaced). I did not see Dax again until 3 days later. | On August 17 Dax showed up around noon with a plea for an additional $140.00 to buy a large tarp to enclose the French door area since rain had been forecasted for later in the day. At that time I gave him the cash whereupon he told me that he’d drive to Gatlinburg to get the tarp since there it would be much cheaper. He never returned that day to protect anything, so that evening my wife and I stood out on a broken balcony, in the rain, trying to protect the area around the French doors that had no longer had any vinyl to keep out water. | August 17th was the last time I saw or heard from Dax. I have paid him a total of $550.00, but as of today no repair work whatsoever has been done to either area of the house. The damage he did to the vinyl siding and the wood framed areas surrounding the two leaks remains untouched. I want a full refund since absolutely no repair work was done! Pictures of this damage are available.
