I received a telephone recording today, March 18, 2020 saying it was from Amazon re $1200 purchase from Costa Rica and believed my acct had been hacked. The # left on the recording was said quickly and I was not prepared to write it down. Since it was from
amazon I looked up their customer service number. A man ninefold James Williams with what sounded Iike an East Indian accent answered my call. After explaining the reason for my call, I was told not to worry as he could solved the problem. I was asked to go to my computer and using Google go to my Amazon account. With further question and my foolishly answering and following his instructions he was able to control my computer. I was then told that indeed my account had been hacked. I was then asked what store, having been given a list, was closet to my home. It was Walmart. I then was told to go to Walmart and purchase a $500 gift card while he stayed on the ind with me the entire time. Then I was to return to my car and give him the info in the back. All the while I was asking why all of this necessary. I said it sounds Iike a scam. He reminded me that I called him. With the $500 gift card I was told he could only get that amount returned to me and in order to get the entire refund I needed to go back into Walmart and purchase 2 EBay gift cards for $200 each. By now I was screaming at this man and told him I had no more money. He responded with “no worries “ to just go to my home and wait calmly by the computer. All the while he was still on the line working with accounting dept. I did mention early on that I don’t have an amazon card and that all purchases were made with a credit card. That he said was no problem the money would be refunded to whatever acct charged. He finally decided I should hang up while he works on the problem and should take about a couple of hours. That was about 7:30p or so. I did call him back and I was told to please let him do his job. The number I reached Mr. Williams on is/was 916-713-5019. I do not see any charge in the amount mentioned on the card that I normally use.. I demand It would be nice to have the money back and that those who prey on honest people are held are caught and held accountable.. No comments
