I originally contacted Advance Insurance on 7/4 for an insurance quote on my vehicle. I filled out a form on their website and waited for a call back the next day. I never received a call back the next day as promised on their website. I then called them on 7/6 and left a message asking where my quote was since they didn’t pick up. I finally received a call back from a guy (I believe it was Ryan). First off I said that I had called them wondering where my quote was because their website promised next-day turn around. Suddenly the guy got very defensive and quite hostile and stated that he had “attempted to contact me” yesterday. I told him that was funny because I did not receive any phone calls yesterday. Then he got even more hostile and said “Do you still want a quote or not” in a rather nasty tone. At that point there was NO WAY I was going to work any further with this roid-rage individual who apparently was looking to pick fights with customers on the phone. I told him no thanks and hung up. | Little did I know that was not the end of this. By the way, he was only ONE of THREE insurance companies I contacted directly, the only other site I had filled a form out for I already had a quote with and they weren’t going to call me back for a few days giving me some time to decide. The 3rd place I contacted via phone and only gave them my first name and phone number and they hadn’t called back. So I know it was Advance Insurance that pulled this very ILLEGAL and HARASSING little campaign.. | After I talked to Advance Insurance, I posted a 1-star review on both Google Maps and Yelp. A little while later I saw a rather snarky reply on Google Maps to my review and just 10 minutes or so after that is when the barrage of unwanted phone calls and emails started. I started getting calls from a bunch of different insurance companies I never contacted (Nor were planning to contact) as well as emails. And in each of these contacts, I had asked where they got my information from (and what information they had on me) and several of them told me they got the info from a website called “EverQuote”, a site which I NEVER visited. These companies also had FAKE information on me, such as a “Chevy vehicle” I owned they wanted to quote (I have never owned a Chevy) and a fake DOB. It was rather obvious based on the information that they DID have that Advance Insurance was behind this ILLEGAL use of my information and filled out a bunch of forms online with my info in order to facilitate harassment of my phone and email. There was no other reason, especially since the information they gave the site(s) were all fake except for my phone, email and name. | Advance Insurance doesn’t realize what they did is ILLEGAL. I would NOT TRUST any private information with them, as it won’t be private for long. I did file a report with the Utah Insurance Licensing division since this sort of thing is something they CAN and SHOULD lose their license for. If anyone else had this happen to them, I recommend you file as well.
