Complaint: My 100 year old father fell victim to a frozen computer with a pop-up offering to fix the computer by calling the listed number (other than the call back number that I’ve listed in this report – we do not have the original pop-up number – I was not home at the time). By calling the number he was offered to have the computer unfrozen and protection for a certain number of years against the same problem for $500. He was sent a form to fill out asking for banking information and he filled it out and sent in his full bank account and authorized the payment for $500. I found out late at night and have since cancelled his bank account (we might be fortunate as this happened on Saturday and we’re hoping that by cancelling with his bank today – Sunday – they may not be able to access the account on Monday) and am reporting the fraud.
